Make-up courses and parties for those wanting to learn about application and specialised looks.

Why is that when we are approaching 40 or already there and beyond, that we suddenly feel like we're "too old" for make up? Who invented this rule anyway..... Exactly! We've put together a few things that you might like to consider next time you apply your make-up or go shopping for some new products.
The main issue many of us face, is that the colours (and very often the actual products) that we are currently using, are the exact same ones that we used when we were in our twenties. Those colours looked and felt great twenty or so years ago, they suited us and were of course very fashionable. Nevertheless, times do change and whether we like it or not, so do we!
Bearing this in mind our first couple of tips are:
| 1. | Don't be afraid of a makeover and changing your look. Believe it or not a few key changes in your make-up and hair styling routine can virtually take years off. There are many professionals who are only too happy help. |
| 2. | Don't be scared to experiment with colours that are fashionable, just remember to choose colours that suit your complexion, hair colour, eye colour etc. Check out this beauty Q&A as a quick reference guide. |
Generally, looking beautiful is all about enhancing what you have, and hiding those little bits that you'd prefer didn't exist. Your complexion unfortunately becomes uneven in texture through the years and we develop things like brown spots and blemishes. When this happens it's a natural instinct to apply more foundation in order to hide them, because that was once the only way of hiding them in the past. However, this will just clog up your pores and sit in any fine lines that you are trying so desperately to avoid sharing with the world.
Instead, consider these tips here:
| 3. | Always use a good facial moisturiser, one that's right for your skin type. A good moisturiser helps combat dehydration which is a primary cause of those horrible fine lines. So you see, in turn we look healthier and younger! |
| 4. |
Whilst we are on the topic of using products right for your skin - this goes for foundation too. There are of course a plethora of products out on the market (contact us if you need some advice) however here are some tips to narrow the field.

Another painful truth as our journey continues in life is the loss of elasticity in our skin. This happens under the eyes and across the eyelids, not to mention the rest of our face and body. This can make applying eyeshadow a bit tricky. The skin moves, the eyeshadow creases or it just completely slips off the eyelid by noon.
So, follow this final tip:
| 5. | The solution to this is Eye Shadow primer, which is typically a liquid product that you apply to your lids before adding your favourite colour. Not only will the primer enhance the colour, making it brighter than if you'd applied it straight onto your skin, it will also prevent creasing and hold your colour for much longer. |
Take these tips onboard and you are sure to be looking your fabulous best in no time. Remember it is about enhancing what you have, focusing the attention on your good bits!
Hi Julia, thanks for the great tips, I love your newsletters and continue to enjoy using your eyeshadows. What you taught me is the basis of how I do my eyes these days (48 very shortly!)
